Danish Wine

New wine country?

It started back in 1993, in Avedøre where Michael Gundersen planted the first vines in a field. However, it was not until the year 2000 that there was an official approval of commercial wine production in Denmark by the EU. After the EU’s approval of commercial wine production, you could taste wine from 2001 onwards. There were 2 wine producers in 2001, and since they did not have a very large stock, the wine was quickly sold out. Subsequently, more and more wineries have been added in Denmark and back in 2020 there were approx. 100 commercial vineyards in the country. The largest is located at Røsnøs Kalundborg and is called Dyrehøj Vingaard.
